Before modern infrastructure, Delta British Columbia was geographically isolated from the rest of the Lower Mainland due to its land being mostly surrounded by the waters of the Pacific Ocean and the Fraser River. Its only connection previously was fifteen percent of its perimeter bordering Surrey BC.

  The George Massey Tunnel connected Delta BC with Richmond in the late 1950's with the cosntruction of Highway 99. The highway was key to Delta's development by routing traffic between Vancouver and Surrey directly through Delta BC Canada. From this point on, Delta has experienced population and economic growth at a rapid pace.

  The BC Ferries Tsawassen Terminal links Delta BC with Vancouver Island and Coastal BC to the North.

  Delta real estate growth in the 1970's and 1980's saw neighbourhood booms with new west coast designs of rancher houses in cul-de-sac streets, and townhouse developments. This now classic style of neighbourhood was widespread across the Lower Mainland. Contemporary architecture and real estate development continues to be prevalent in Delta BC, with sophisticated and elegant community initiatives being constructed to offer Delta BC residents a lifestyle which is competitive with other major centres in British Columbia Canada.
